Deuce Brown grew up inside New Orleans trumpet culture. An Associated Press photograph from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on April 30, 2015, shows him at age 6 playing trumpet with the Trumpet Mafia; the following year he took a solo with the group on the Jazz Fest stage as its youngest member. He is the son of veteran trumpeter Leon “Kid Chocolate” Brown, and plays in his father’s bands as well as with the Trumpet Mafia.
His own project is the Young Lions Showcase at d.b.a. (618 Frenchmen Street), billed as Deuce Brown & The Young Lions. It runs every Saturday afternoon from 2:30 to 5:30 PM, with Brown hosting a rotating cast of young players — the lineup changes, the showcase is the constant — in the spirit its billing describes as passing the torch of New Orleans music culture to the next generation.
On October 3, 2026, Brown shared the d.b.a. stage with Deacon John and his father, Leon “Kid Chocolate” Brown, for NOLAxNOLA’s “The Next Note” — a billing that puts the generations side by side: the veteran, the torchbearer, and the young players coming up behind him.
