Caribbean Soul, New Orleans Heart

Daria & The Hip Drops have been rocking the New Orleans scene since 2010, combining the grit of alternative rock with the tropical tones of the Caribbean. At the forefront stands the dynamic Daria Dzurik, a charming frontwoman whose vocal melodies are as captivating as the resonant steel drum beats she commands.

Their 2015 debut album Hipnotic earned the band one of Jimmy Buffett's favorite band nods. The band takes its name from the "Hip Drop" song and dance created by the New Orleans-based funk band The Explosions in the ’60s — a deliberate nod to the mix of funk and Caribbean sounds found in New Orleans. OffBeat notes the band's influences include No Doubt, The Talking Heads, Toots & the Maytals, and The Arctic Monkeys.

The group has carved out its niche on the New Orleans music scene alongside the likes of Tank & the Bangas, Dumpstaphunk, and Cowboy Mouth, and closed out the Lagniappe stage at Jazz Fest after its post-Covid return in 2022. Earlier chapters include Dzurik's solo album Calliope (2010) and the band record I Tried the Hip Drop & I Liked It, celebrated at the 2014 French Quarter Festival.
