Black Magic Drumline was the idea of college classmates at Xavier University, where the drumline was first known as X-Factor. It performed at school events and around the city, and as its popularity grew the group was renamed Black Magic in 2013.
The group is a unique musical experience that includes chanting, dancing, and a powerful drumline performance. It focuses on precision drumming and intricately choreographed dance moves, and every member comes from a music background — marching band, church music, DJing, dance — formed before the line.
Black Magic has performed all over the country, from Bonnaroo and SXSW to Pelicans games and the Essence Festival, and played with Tank and the Bangas at the Music Box Village. The group also offers music services including drumline performances, band bookings, fitness, and music lessons.
